This film follows The Comanche Academy, an Indigenous charter school working to revitalize the Comanche language and culture. In doing so, they begin a generational healing from the impact of boarding schools.
With fewer than 10 fluent Comanche language speakers remaining, the urgency to preserve the language and culture has never been greater. The film sheds light on the generational impact of Indian boarding schools, where Native American children’s language and traditions were forcibly taken under government assimilation policies. Through the resilience of its educators and students, Comanche Academy is creating a space for cultural rediscovery, healing, and empowerment.
