HOT AIR

Directed by Urvashi Pathania - Cinematography by Kathryn Boyd-Batstone

A SLOAN FOUNDATION FILM - In 1856 Eunice Newton Foote detected the physical basis of what we now call the greenhouse gas effect. European summaries omitted her conclusions about the impact of carbon dioxide on the climate, where she note, β€œan atmosphere of [Co2] would give our earth a higher temperature.” A scientist named John Tyndall is given credit for discovering the greenhouse gas effect. Tyndall released his findings three years after Eunice and likely had access to her work.

Today, we all know her work, but not her name. This is her story.
